Lovecraft country novel review5/28/2023 ![]() ![]() And he held some pretty vicious views on the inferiority of the black races to the upper echelons of the white.Īll of that feeds into the heady brew that is Lovecraft Country. He developed a mythos in which humanity was haunted by a dark past, sometimes ancestral in origin, sometimes alien. Many of Lovecraft's stories were set in a fictionalised version of his native New England, referred to by scholars as Lovecraft Country. It is based on a 2016 novel by Matt Ruff that references the writings of HP Lovecraft, the legendary (though largely unknown before his death in 1937) writer whose "weird fiction" influenced Stephen King and Clive Barker, among others. Written by Misha Green, creator of Underground, the series is produced by Jordan Peele, writer-director of Get Out and Us, and like those forebears it uses historical drama and genre conventions to probe the nature of race relations in the US. ![]()
